The Difference A Little Hope Makes
Jul 30, 2014 | 0 comments

Before they were resettled, the villagers were without land or homes. Many were living off the city streets. Their new homes in Kampong Speu have given them hope. They have been inspired to make a better life for them and their children.
Like this man in his 30’s, who runs a small provision shop in front of his home together with his wife. He plans to save up to buy a truck and convert it into a mobile grocery store to ply his wares to factory workers in the nearby town. His five-year-old daughter attends the Hope Nursery. Asked what he would like her to do, he proudly declared that his wish is for her to become a doctor. Our efforts in giving him a home and sustainable livelihood have dared him to have big dreams for his daughter.

Another villager, Mr Khorm, has this to share:
“Since I became handicapped, some people look down on me. They think a handicapped man cannot do anything. Even though life is hard, I have never become a beggar and beg from anyone. Instead, I try to find work. It is difficult to find people who want to employ me. But now I have land and a nice house for shelter. I grew up poor. It was difficult for my father and mother to support me. But now I am a farmer and earn my own income. Now I can support not just myself but also my family. Nobody can look down me at me again. I am very, very happy and satisfied. Hope Villages is like my family as they support me to have a future. Thank you very much!”
